Default Radiator options for a 1936 coupe

I’ve been rounding up parts for my 36 this winter. I hope to pick up a 52 mercury engine next week. I realize a 8ba might be a bit of challenge fitting it in place.
I have to fine find a radiator. I checked Walker Radiator website and they don’t seem to list a stock or flathead radiator.
I been looking for original radiator and have had no luck. I’m thinking a aluminum rad might not be worth the hassle if it does fit right.
I’m not 100% sure how to identify a 36 radiator if I found one.

What are my best options for a radiator?

Are 35 radiators the same as a 36?

BrassWorks custom builds radiators to your application.

I picked up a used Walker rad here on the Barn. Straightened a few fins and put it in place of the original that needed a good rodding out . Couldn't find a local shop to do it.

A '35 radiator is not the same as a '36, and much of the hood and grille alignment depends on having the correct radiator to fasten these items to. If you go new reproduction, BRASSWORKS is your best choice in my opinion, but be prepared to pay the price. http://www.thebrassworks.net/shop/Re...ffabb5f6446598

I would personally suggest you keep looking for a good original/nos '36 radiator. I could post pictures here or email you pictures of a stock '36 radiator if you would like to see one

Dropping that Merc engine in your '36 will not be a problem if you use PU truck or 49 Merc water pumps, but 49 Merc pumps will require the use of "U" shaped Merc spacers. Converting your Merc engine to an earlier cam, front mount distributor, and generator/alternator with fan mount will also make the engine conversion a lot simpler. There have been recent threads you can learn from on this same subject.

Walker will make a radiator of their heaviest duty with outlets for flatheads at extra charge. Non-stock upper tank but should fit and cool well.

36coupe: Here's the Walker 1936 radiator. Open and scroll down. I would hesitate buying a used radiator. I've had the Walker in my 40 since 1999. No leaks or problems. No high quality radiators are cheap.

You might also look at U.S. Radiator in Los Angeles. I believe they will make you a radiator for a flathead. The problem arises when you want to run the stock fan on the generator. The repo radiators do not have the depression in the upper tank to clear the fan. If you have some stock tanks you can call Beko radiator in Concord, California at 925-671-2975. They do excellent work in building a core for your original tanks. Be prepared to pay the price, but you get what you pay for and it's American made. Most aluminum radiators are made overseas and usually don't fit well, especially with cars where the front sheetmetal attaches to the radiator.

brassworks will make a radiator with the "hump" so you can run a fan. put one in a 36 sedan last spring--waited for 12 weeks and the price put a lump in my throat--but the car runs cools with it even in the hot, humid southern sun

I put a 36 Radiator wide tank in a 35 so the opposite could work ,you would need to change the hood catches, ted

Brass Works. They made a 37 style rad with a 36 tanks so I could move it forward to in stall a 331 caddy in my 36 roadster. That's how to run a fan on a 8 ba in a 36.

Walker will make one for about $862 but the upper tank will not clear a fan,

Running a Brassworks radiator in my '39 p/u with an 8ba. Lee at Brassworks worked with me to make sure the 4inch core would fit and provided other technical suggetions. Yes, it wasn't as cheap as a glued together off shore aluminum one BUT it fits, it cools, and its made by a locally owned business.
Nuff said.

Here's another vote for Brassworks. I waited for 3 months and had to dig deep, but in the end I'm real happy with the radiator.

Here's a photo of their stock '36 radiator.
