8RT carb rebuild
I am rebuilding an 8RT carb that I picked up on eBay. It looked pretty good and still had the tag so I figured it wasn’t too worn out. It has a lot of play in the throttle shaft, a 0.281 door pin slides in pretty easily so I have a new base on the way. I have been practicing the chromate dip on a junk air horn and have it down pretty good. It was a little darker than I wanted so I will adjust the time slightly on the real one.
The fuel inlet nut gets a little tight at the bottom. Before I run a thread repair in there I wanted to confirm the thread size. Are all 8RT air horns 1/2-20 threads? JB |

Re: 8RT carb rebuild
I trued up the carb base and bottom base. Those meet nicely and I see no light. On the air horn to carb base, I had to true it also. Started with 220 on a sanding block and worked up to 1000 grit. Both edges fit pretty well with the screws torqued to 7 inch/lbs. In some places I can get a 0.0035 feeler in but a 0.004 will not go. The gasket thickness is 0.030 so in my mind I should be good to go, but wanted to confirm with the experts.
