Default generator case question

Rebuilding a spare generator for an 8BA. Can the inside of the case and coil shoes be painted or do those need to be shiny metal against the armature?

They can be painted, use insulating paint, do not put it on to thick and check to make sure amateur does not rub shoes.

Use any good metal primer paint, and dont layer it to thick between the pole shoes and the casing. Need to maintain armature clearance with pole shoes. Regards, Kevin.

I bet spray on bar-b-Q black would do the trick. It doesn't flake.
