Then he'd have to build a bigger shed.

Thanks for all the replies, fellas. Sometimes the simpler the better. Unfortunately a bigger shed would need a bigger garden and I'm maxed out.

I made a bracket to mount my '51 Ford transmission on a regular engine stand. At my age, I need some mechanical advantage repositioning it and the stand facilitates that nicely. I'd post a picture, but it's in Minnesota and I'm not.

Great idea, I think I have an angle iron bed frame laying around somewhere.

Mart, that looks good. I went in a different direction copying the Vern Tardel version since I had a short piece of threaded pipe that fits into the drain hole and a pice of 2"x3" rectangular tubing. Horizontal or vertical positioning.

Maybe MacVP will share his stand for rebuilding transmissions.

I guess I'm showing my "amateur status" here, but I get excited whenever I find one of those old style bed frames. They're a real good source of material. About 5 years ago, a friend bought an old cabin complex and gave me five. I was in heaven!

Mart-
I made a stand too, but yours is better since you can stand the transmission on end.

That’s cool. This is what I use because it seems I never have enough space on my bench .

Yes, you will, you lucky people.

It will be more of a how not to do it, but you might learn from my mistakes...

Ken - That is very similar to the way I have my later model transmission mounted on an engine stand. With the transmission mounted, it takes up no more floor space than the stand alone does, and it's a lot easier working on a transmission when it's not rocking back and forth on the bench.

To be honest I might have made it so it fits the engine stand, but I have an engine sitting on the stand at the moment.

The last time I rebuilt a 3 speed, I just had it sitting in a wide 5 wheel!

Mart.

Could you give a few dimensions of the stand to get me started to build one? Thanks!

Short legs are 3-1/4"
Uprights that bolt to box are 10-1/4"
Feet are 15"
Allow an extra 7/8 for the folded over parts on the short legs.

Mart.
