Default Changing Grease Fittings to Type

I have bought the complete set of modern type grease fitting to replace my original type. I have recently read that some of the modern press in ones are not the correct diameter. What would be my options if this happens? I did buy the set from Brattons if that matters. Anyone able to give me some some direction on this?

Thanks!

See what happens. If the press-in type holes are too big, you might have to re-drill and tap or another size might do it: https://saeproducts.com/drive-type-grease-fittings.html

I bought the complete set from one of the vendors. The threaded fittings worked fine. The press in fittings (which turned out to be pound in) were mostly too big. I still have a number that I haven’t replaced. I’m interested in whatever this thread can turn up.

I just went to a local auto parts store with the old grease fittings and had them match the threads for the threaded ones and the size for the press in type. They all fit very well.

Wouldn't it be a lot easier to just buy the adapter for your grease gun?. My car has both types. The old straight ones seem to work just fine. I use the little plunger type grease gun that I found under the seat of my delivery to do the old style ones.

That’s a thought. I didn’t think that an auto parts store would have press in fittings.

For me, the appeal of the zerk fittings is that they tend to be less messy. My car has both types too. If I don’t get the grease gun perfectly aligned, I get a big glob of grease on the front of the fitting instead of inside the fitting.

Good point. I use a lift so it's easier to grease than laying on the floor and I still get the odd time when that happens. Easy to just wipe it up. Would be much more annoying laying on the floor.

Yup. I’m on the floor.

I use a needle tip on the old style grease fillings and on the modern fittings I can't get a straight shot at (like on the Mitchell rear drive shaft coupling)..
