Default 34 Engine Splash Pan Installation

Before I finish restoring these, I have a quick question...does the left (drivers side) pan get bolted in and then just "hang" out there? Or is it supposed to wedge against or touch the oil pan/rail in any way? Seems like it would have a lot of flex when driving, maybe that's why so many pans have cracked bolt holes?

They bolt to the frame, never touch the engine!! Once they are bolted in they are really quite stable. There is usually a good 1/4" gap (or more) between the pans and the engine to allow for vibration and such of the engine.

NICE set of pans! Am wondering if the RH pan has D-Nuts for attachment? There seem to be several variations. Most of the 33-34 RH pans, I have seen, do not have D-Nuts and use bolts and additional nuts for installation. I have a 33 RH pan that does have D-Nuts.

Thanks, mine does have the D-nuts on the right one. Sure makes it a lot easier to install, still had to remove the y-pipe to get it in there though.

Looks good....glad to see your attention to detail.....Engine tins have been my pet peeve, I.m always amazed at how many nicely done cars are shown with out engine tins....When I see a car that has them, I always feel the owner has done his homework. Now, you want "HARD TO FIND", try finding them for a Right Hand Drive Early Ford V8. It only took me 25+ years to find a set for our 35 Ute.

Terry,

Following on our earlier exchange, these are a nicely matched set of authentic '34 pans. The 3 versus 4 rib assertion would seem to apply only to very early '33 LHD left side pans and not their later counterparts (both the '33 and all of the '34 LHD versions).

I have 3 rhd 33/34 LH side pans, 1 x 33 & 2 x 34 all have 'D' nuts.
Also have a RH side for rhd has no 'D' nuts.
