Default 2 Piece Chevy Rear Seal

Could one of our expert Model A engine builders explain what needs to be done to the block and/or the crankshaft to install the 2 piece chevy rear seal. I have a pressurizer oil system and would like to eliminate the constant oil drip at the rear seal.

The crank needs to be enlarged in the seal area, and machined smooth. A new rear aluminum piece needs to be installed in the block and the cap needs some machining. You can also use the 1-piece Burtz seal, I like it better but it requires some mods too.

Dan McEachern manufactures a kit to install the Chevy small block seal in Model B engines. I emailed him a couple months ago regarding developing something similar for the Model A engine. He said it is on his list to develop something. I did not ask as to a timeline.

His seal kit for the "B" engine works very well.

I hope he makes it happen!
Good Day!

Tell me more! I have a B engine in one of my cars but the oil slinger was damaged so the reconditioner machined it off altogether. The one piece neoprene seal doesn't stop much oil at all. After a run of even 50 miles, if I park on concrete, the pool of oil is a couple of feet (600mm) across. I'd love to get rid of the tray I made to catch the oil under the flywheel housing.

Hey Jim B,
I second your advice regarding the Terry Burtz rear seal....for the B engine.
I've run one in a Russian B for a dozen years+ now and no leak of oil whatsoever .
Also, Terry is a member here, so a guy can converse directly with him for advice/questions regarding use of equipment that he developed !

Also, have one in a second B without any oil leak,
Anyone who knows, will tell a guy that the 'secret' is to get it done right first time !
