I never had the problem. Not being in front of a car, I remember the tilt of the steering assy such that the fill is below that point. Like i said I'm not in front of a car so I can't verify.

as mike mentioned when the box is mounted in the car it will not leak due to the angle

I guess I misunderstood the question. Are you filling the box on the bench and laying it down on its side? set it up to it's approximate position and angle in the car first then check for leaks.

I can see how it might happen.

Perhaps this like the petcocks on a Model T? Fill until the upper petcock lets it leak out?

Gear boxes 7-tooth takes 7 3/4 ounces, 2-tooth takes 4 1/2 ounces of 600 W.
