Smile Eddie Meyer Intake

Can anyone shed some light on this Eddie Meyer intake that has the 4 bolt carb base ,or was there a riser? The Speedway repops have the 3 bolt for the Stromberg .

The Eddie Meyer high rise intake was a two piece assembly what you have in the photo looks like its the base section of the two piece intake. The risers for the high rise section used four studs on each leg.

It would be interesting to know if the 4 bolt pattern matches the Mercury Holley/small base 2G or not. It looks close. Maybe it was a "Double Duty" model that could be run as a hi-rise or a racing manifold with 4 bolt carbs.

Edmunds did make a dual manifold that used the 4 bolt carbs. I believe it was advertised as their "Racing Model". The only ones I have seen were for the later (8BA) flatheads. I passed on one on eBay a few years ago, as it was "too expensive". It's the same old deal, "you can't pay too much, but you can buy too early".

Looks like it is missing the upper part. In my 32 5w album there is a picture of mine with 2 Stromberg 81s. The one I have is old.

Doug Clem in NV confirmed that the 3 bolt section was machined off just below to the rectangular portion. The 4 bolt pattern corresponds to the early 4 bolt Rochester base.My buddy is going to buy the Speedway adapters so he can run Stromberg 97's.

I believe that Doug is correct in that I've not seen that particular base unit with a riser on it. The model with the risers look quite different - both the water heated ones and the exhaust heated ones.

Agreed. This is their version of a "super" intake with the carbs spread over the intake ports. This is not the base to one of their two piece intakes. It is also a non-heated intake; if that makes a difference to you or not.

V8COOP, I admire your ability to properly demonstrate-illustrate examples for educating. I have no idea where your library exists, but, it is certainly extensive. Good on you.

Looking a Mr. Coopman's picture, I have to think that perhaps they had the idea to make a version for 4 bolt carbs. Why else would they cast it with what looks to be an extended carb mounting pad? That leaves the question as to why they didn't cast the larger pad to the full height?

Judging from the size of the openings in deuce lover's photo and Doug's counsel that the manifold was not intended to be used with the separate risers, the intention was clearly for carburetors to be used with seriously-sized venturi.

David:

The modified ones, yes.

A stock, unmodified one with the three bolt riser is appropriately sized for Stromberg/Holley carb.
