Am I the "only" one confused here??? What is pictured and as described in the "original" first post AND in post #11 was said to be "similar to a fillister head" AND did not acknowledge 51MercCT's post in #11 as being correct in his post #16..... is NOWHERE near what Sheldon has pictured AND the original poster said is the screw??????? ALSO in his post #7 stated "The head is almost as long as the threads" which is as far away from a pan head screw as you can get!!!! Call me baffled or did I miss something??????

David, I all the 60+yrs goofing around with early Fords I have kept these leftovers so if it helps someone it was worth keeping . Sheldon

Sheldon,

I learned a long time ago not to throw anything away and the result is a first class mess in my hobby building, but you never know when you or someone else can make good use of the leftovers.

Station Wagon is totally different from passenger car. What is pictured in post one is the correct "screw". It threads into the very end of the handle shaft from the inside and is visible from the inside of wooden door panel. They are not reproduced by anyone. If you have access to a small lathe it can be easily fabricated. I would take a piece of 1/2" brass round rod and bore and tap it out to 10/32. Cut the end to a small dome shape and cut the screwdriver slot. I would then use a 10/32 set screw in the length you need. Have it plated and you're done. Let me make a few phone calls and I'll get back to you.

I just Called two of my "old reliables" that have an inventory of Woodie parts. Both have door handles but they don't have the "screws", sorry. If you don't have access to a lathe I would take the "screw" that you have and take it to a machine shop and have it fabricated and even suggest the methods I would use to fab one. Most people don't understand that Station Wagon parts are unique.

Make it from stainless steel bolt whose diameter is the same size as the head. Polish the stainless and you are all done.

Times 2 on that.

It would be a 10 minute lathe job to create one.

If the head of the screw is below the surface of what it is holding, you should be able to make a replacement by drilling a short piece of rod for the diameter of the screw and using a pan head screw get the same effect. Length of the drilled rod would depend on the thickness of the pan head and the short piece of drilled rod so it would match the head height of the original.

I might have a fairly easy solution for you. I don't know if you have ever dealt with McMaster Carr, but if you haven't they will sell to the general public. Check out part number 93230A645 its a 1/2" x 1/2" stainless steel spacer with a #10 hole in the center. Use that in conjunction with part number 91792A833, stainless steel, 10,32 x 1" domed shaped screw. Nobody will ever know the difference. Check out the part numbers on the MMC website and you can get a clear picture of what I'm describing.

Sounds like a good solution woodywagon but Ill continue to look awhile longer. Handle wont fall off and looking at pics online some cars dont even have them anymore. Im sure Ford thought the 2 wood screws in the door may be weak after several years and handle tear off, he added this screw as reassurance. Meantime I'll look then use other solution if I dont find the correct screw, thanks
