This past weekend there were 40 Lincolns here in Maine ,I went to the show and didn't know of the Lincolns and no camera.,
On the 39 Zephyr there were 2 here and the shift lever was it a covered floor shift or column. There was one had hood open nice chrome heads V12.

George,

Too bad you didn't have a camera, I would have loved to see them. All Zephyrs from '36 to '39 had consoles with floor mounted shifts, in '38 the shift lever was moved behind the console, to give the impression of more leg room to accommodate three people in the front seat. All Zephyrs came equipped with aluminum heads and intake manifolds however, it wasn't until the introduction of the Lincoln Zephyr Continental (1940) that polished heads and intakes were used, and only on the Continental, to my knowledge, the Zephyr still used unpolished aluminum heads & intake manifolds. Like the Ford and Mercury, the '40 Zephyr and Continental came with the steering column mounted shift lever.
