Default 1931 indent firewall gas shut off question?

Bought the repair kit for the 31 indent firewall fuel shut off valve. Followed the instrunctions. Remove the nut, lock washer, handle, and packing nut. Clean out any old packing. Remove the valve stem. The valve stem rotates easily 360 degrees. Tried to pull it up without success.

How do I get the stem out?

Thanks in advance.

Did you try putting the handle back on upside down and then rotate and pull at the same time?

Thanks for the reply. Didn't realize there was more packing in the shut off than what I had taken out. Sprayed some pent oil and picked out the packing slivers at a time. The valve then came out easily. and way

The MORAL of the story is: DON'T take one apart, until you have a NEW KIT IN YO' HAND!----On small stuff, I usually order 2, in case I screw up, saves on shipping, also. IF I ever sell Vermin, I'll open a PARTS STORE.

Newbie here! So moral of the story is on some things (small ticket items) order two instead of one and save on shipping?

(no tongue in cheek, a serious question)

YEP, sometimes you order a 50 cent gasket & pay $7.17 for shipping & packing & handling. Why not an envelope??? When sending someone a letter, do I put it in a BIG BOX?--My Momma didn't raise no FOOL!
When I buy a TOILET part, I always get 2-------------& when I buy socks, I get a PAIR.
