I had the identical problem on a customer's car about 10 years ago, and I also used the original nut.

I bought that same kit from that same dealer in MD. However, I never intended to install it -- only used it as a static display. I built a complete dash unit to sit on my desk as an incentive and reminder of what was yet to come. This was about a year before I actually owned my current vehicle.

If a gas gauge show gas in the window when you fill the tank, is something not assembled correctly? Sorry don't want to steal this thread.

The gas gauge SHOULD show gas in the window until it gets down to somewhere around 3/4 or so.
