Re: Best chemicals/solutions/goops to clean off gear oil, etc. on a chassis
In my opinion, just a rag will wipe up any grease/oil on a car that I presume was painted two years ago. That is what I use on my 56 Bird undercarriage and most of it comes off.. Any thing harder to get off i use Super Clean.

I'm a Simple Green fan, too, but whatever you choose, buy one of those small, cheap plastic kiddie pools to slide under your work area.

My go to degreaser is a commercial citrus degreaser called de-zov all. It’s expensive, but works. The others I have tried just move it around. Spray, let soak, then hit with a good low pressure power washer.

I find myself using 91% alcohol on tools that are not plated. Degreasing with alcohol gets into the cracks while prepping for Zero Rust. The finish is smoother and leaves some rust protection after a light oil film. My CHANNELLOCKs are presentation grade. Good Luck: Fred A

Tim, I agree with McGarrett, AVOID OVEN CLEANER!! I use it to remove paint!!
I build models and when I get someone else's "glue bomb" , I spray it with EasyOff to remove the paint and I use it to correct my own mistakes. It will not hurt plastic or pot metal and it has no effect on some acrylics(pre-painted models..? don't know why). JPL |
