Painting car
My roadster is painted dawn gray and Chelsea blue. When repainting is it better to paint the entire body the gray and then mask off the gray and paint the blue? Or is it better to mask off the blue areas paint the gray then mask off the gray and paint the blue?
Thanks Dick |

Re: Painting car
I would paint the large area first, then mask out and do the small areas and pinstriping next.

While you are not asking about this, be sure to sand the areas around the moulding (-where the edge of the moulding meet the adjacent cowl/door/quarter panel. It is very easy to allow fillers and primers to overload this area enough that the line is no longer crisp. Also, when you paint the first color, you will overlap onto the adjacent panel with the paint. Once dried, you will tape a break line and then scuff sand the over-sprayed areas for the secondary paint to stick to. Again, all areas including the inside cabin area will need to be masked. (Plastic is your friend!) If not, the overspray will make a very coarse finish on the sills and interior panels. |
