Re: Gearing/revs
Based on my experience in a tach-equipped '40 Ford with 3.78 rear end, you're probably never pulling more than 3k at the max.

Re: Gearing/revs
Tom: PM me with your email address. I think I still have an Excel spread sheet I set up with all the available transmission and rear end gear set ups that show speed in each gear at whatever RPM and also RPM drop when shifting.

Re: Gearing/revs
Thanks for that. I saw in a spec sheet that max power was produced at 3700rpm, but had no idea if that is flat out or not.
Would 3000rpm be uncomfortable fast road revs in high gear? |

Ken, That looks like the back of a Bill Widenhouse card. I bought some Columbia parts from him many years ago. He was a truely good guy. Ken

Re: Gearing/revs
The "comfort range" for most Flathead cars, on the highway, is the 2000 to 2500 RPM area. The engine will be at the most efficient revs for better mileage and produce less noise.

Re: Gearing/revs
Thanks John. With my 4.11:1 diff and 3.50x18 tires, 2500rpm gives 50 mph. I want to increase that a bit, so a 3.54 diff gives me just under 60mph at the same revs, which is ideal
