Dam radiator went out
So I am crushing down the road and the dam metal line that goes off the back of it decides to break off. It shoots fluid everywhere big old white smoke. Someone even called the fire department thinking it was on fire. The question is can it get get fixed or do I need to by a new radiator?

Re: Dam radiator went out
If you mean the overflow tube, it can be soldered back in place. If you mean the neck on the upper tank where the upper hose fits, that, too, can be soldered back. But make sure you take the radiator to a sympathetic shop that understands how to do this. The lousy radiator shops staffed by Gen-x losers will just try to sell you a re-core or a whole new radiator. THAT'S where they make their big bucks, not from re-soldering.

Re: Dam radiator went out
Plugged radiator tubes. Do some searches on cleaning out rust and grease

Re: Dam radiator went out
If that overflow pipe had a crack or rust hold on the part inside the upper tank, then it could have been draining off coolant until the block overheated. It is a relatively easy fix to solder a new tube in place. Hopefully you don't have a lot of plugged radiator tubes.

Re: Dam radiator went out
Well I called Bert's and told him what's going on and I already tried unplugging the radiator a few times and it's not working. So I ordered a new one. It needs it anyways.

Re: Dam radiator went out
Afraid to comment...I'm a Gen X (1966). Mine broke or rusted off, I took the radiator to a radiator shop run by someone much older than me. In the end, I should have gone somewhere else or fixed it myself!
Have it repaired, but get the radiator cleaned out while its apart!

"So I ordered a new one. It needs it anyways."
Time to celebrate ......... so many people are never fortunate enough to discover life's agonizing problems ....... nothing like a happy ending to one's struggles. Cost? So what, just paper money vs. enjoying riding in a "cool" Model A. |
