Lets see your Ton Trucks-aka tonners
I guess it is about time to do this, seeing a lot of them as of late on the Barn thought it would be fun to see what everyone has. (see my community pages too) Early Tonner's (Big trucks) 32-53.

"Built Ford Tough" is more than an ad punchline. After 74 years my tonner is still a workhorse.

Rescued this one, in the process to rebuild. Glad to see others in running condition.

Re: Lets see your Ton Trucks-aka tonners
This photo is at least 45 years old but the M68 Mercury truck at left still exists here on the farm. The 46 Ford facing the camera was stripped down to the chassis and converted into a flat deck trailer. I still have the cab and drive train parts.
For those not familiar with the Canadian term "M68", it referred to the Gross vehicle weight rating which in this case was 6800 pounds.

Michelin LTX M/S P275/70/R16 (Photo1). They're on a 16" radial rim welded to a cut down center from an OEM 17" rim.
The spare is a Firestone 700-17 (Photo2) on an OEM 17" rim with locking ring. |

Re: Lets see your Ton Trucks-aka tonners
From 48-50 only F4s were considered One Ton trucks. From the Ford Operator's manual for '48:
F1 1/2 ton 114" wb, 4700 GVWR F2 3/4 ton 122" wb, 5700 GVWR F3 3/4 ton Heavy Duty 122" wb, 6800 GVWR F4 1 ton 134" wb, 10,000 GVWR In 51/52 apparently Ford shifted the one ton designation to include F3s. |

Re: Lets see your Ton Trucks-aka tonners
Yes, prior to 48 there wasn't an "F" designation. They were just known by their weight rating.... which has always been a little sketchy anyway.

Re: Lets see your Ton Trucks-aka tonners
I believe this is a tonner. It's a 36. Just something about it that I like.
