Default water pump needle bearing

I installed Brattons needle bearing kit in my spare water pump today and ran into a problem, when I used the brass rear pump bushing to press the sleeve on to the water pump shaft the bushing tightened up on the pump shaft and was difficult to remove it.I used a hydraulic press,I think if you increased the inside diameter of that brass bushing it probably wouldn't bind to the water pump shaft.I'm wondering if anybody else ran into this problem.

I drive mine on with a deep wall socket and have never had a problem. Some of my pumps have been used for more than ten years with no problem. I know for a fact that this method works and the socket has never stuck.

I just rebuilt two using a deep wall socket and a heavy duty bench vise. No problems. Grease the inside of the pump shaft and the outside of the bearing.
