8BA Breather tube- last question today-really
Anyone have a photo of where the vent tube on a '53 8BA goes? Last time, I stuck it right on. This time - duh - not obvious. Don't know if it was a car or truck orginally, but came out of a truck. It isn't close in attached photo!
I know, it's dirty and the wrong color, so we don't have to go there! Thanks, Gordon

Both pieces are in your photo. The one on the right is upside down. The other end goes into the intake manifold. The piece on the left is upside down also. The left piece goes on the end of the other piece and curves across the front of the block and down along the side of the pan.

This will help. Mercury and Ford are the same set up.

I think all car pipes goes to back in 2 pieces.
The 53 truck the second pipe goes straight down. |

Re: 8BA Breather tube- last question today-really
Mercury and Ford are similar. The question mark tube attaches to the timing cover with a clamp & bolt on the left side and is the same part for all 8BA engines. The lower draft tube for most Ford engines has a downward bent about 10 inches up from the bottom and the Mercury lower draft tube has only the slightest bend near the bottom end of the tube so the whole thing will clear the big cross member.

Do away wi th the tube and go to a pcv. Works and looks better. About $45.

I like the PCV Valve conversion for the road draft tube. What kind should one use for this application?

Re: 8BA Breather tube- last question today-really
Thanks all for the replies. Where is should go is simple once you see it. I don't know what's different, but it seems it will not clear the crossmember in my 39 frame once I attach the pan bracket.
PCV valve seems like a great solution. Appreciate you taking time to answer and even post photos. Gordon

Re: 8BA Breather tube- last question today-really
So there is a second piece to the tube coming out of the intake? Interesting.... Mine just has the one tube, shooting straight down between the water pump and crank pulley. Is the other piece available, or do you have to get lucky and find a complete original truck/car to snag one off of?
