Default Lower radiator hose heater hose fitting

I ordered new radiator hoses for my 1941. The passenger side lower hose has a fitting to attach the heater hose. The new hose did not come with the fitting. Before I try to attach the fitting to the new hose i would like your advice. It appears that the fitting comes apart and can be inserted in the hose after a hole is cut in it.

Yes, just did this on our 39 Merc. I put a small piece of 1 x 1 wood up inside the hose and drilled a hole with my drill in the spot i marked. Then I screwed the inside rounded washer to the barb and I used a little rubber/RTV sealer and put a "thin" bead about 3/8" inside the outer perimeter and installed inside the hose through my hole. Then I did the same thing to the outer half round washer, thin bead 3/8" inside the outer perimeter and put on the outside of the hose then tighten the nut. Don't forget that step of tightening the nut.....ask me how I know. I let mine sit a day before adding fluid.

Thanks, rockfla. That is how I figured it should work. Just needed a second opinion as I can (and do) screw things up.

I did it the same way as rockfla did it for my 46 Deluxe, except I used a 3/4 x 1 1/2” piece of hardwood and a hole punch the same size as the pipe barb. It was 5/8” if I recall correctly.

ALSO, don't get in a hurry and not "think" and put the RTV on the outside of the outer washer like i did too. It goes "underside" knock on forehead!!!!

I also use a hole punch and purposely choose the punch that is slightly smaller then the hose that slips through the hole. When the nut is screwed down onto the curved plate it should make a good seal that way, and I have never had a leak there. Install the hose and mark where you want to make the hole slightly angled away from the pulley and fan not straight up, then remove the hose and install the fitting.
