James Rogers Magic Trick!
As some may remember with the help of you guys I was able to get my last motor running. (the one that was stuck solid) Well it turned out it had a internal water jacket crack....no good. So I had another motor that looked worse than the previous. It was used as a mill and was found in the woods probably where it did its last bit of lumber and slept for many of years....I didn't want to fool with it after the first one and with so much other mechanicals I have to do I decided to pass it along to Dreamwerks. James is a very nice fella and has been in touch through out the whole process. He has also given me helpful hints on other project related items. BIG PLUS!!! He is a real joy to do business with and builds the motor around what you will be doing with the car. The pictures will truly show the amount of crud in this engine! Do yourself a favor and buy a driver for 12K and call it a day....LOL
It cleaned up nice! James is giving it another dip today and start the machine work! Thank you, James Rogers!! |

I agree with your assessment of Jim and others on this forum altho I have not done business directly with them. After owning other makes of antique cars, one can appreciate the knowledgeable people and their willingness to help us all. Thanks. Jack

Re: James Rogers Magic Trick!
What's the fitting on the water intake??
It looks to have cleaned up nicely. I'm sure James will have it purring soon.

Without actually going and looking at an engine, isn't the oil breather tube on the DS (LH Drive) of the engine between #1 and #2 cylinders? It looks to me that picture #5 is flipped left-right. What am I missing? |

Re: James Rogers Magic Trick!
Bill, the fitting is my engine stand adapter bought years ago. You are looking into the crankcase with the engine upside down. This engine had standard everything but no shims and the cylinders were honed and re-ringed sometime. I opened up the intake bores today, decked the block and, bored it. It went to .060 and now has to be cooked in a caustic tank to remove all the oil and sediment in the water jackets. The oil is a good thing since it kept the rust down over the years. This is not the worst engine I have ever seen but, it ranks right up there. When I finish, it will only be a shadow of what came into my shop. More updates will follow this, I'm sure.

Re: James Rogers Magic Trick!
O.k., I see my confusion. in this picture
I'm looking at cylinders 1 & 2 at the bottom of the image, and the main bearing at the top is the center main. I had pictured it as the front main. My mistake. |
