Default 1931 Model A Ford Traveler

I understand that 10 Ford Travelers were built in 1931. I am searching for someone who owns on. A friend is looking for measurements. Thanks.

1931 Ford Model A Traveler was an early camper derived from theFord Natural Wood Panel Special Delivery, similar to their successful station wagon.

1931 Ford 'Natural Wood Special Delivery' Model A Designed for merchants serving top-end customers. The sales price was $695 and was considered too expensive for the times. It was the height of the Great Depression and one could buy the full metal delivery van for a tad over $400. Just 680 were produced from 1928 to 1932.

It would be wonderful to see a Travelers Wagon. In ....'as Henry Built It', it states 2 built at Edgewater,2 at Norfolk,1 at Detroit. Overseas, 1 at Istanbul,3 at Walkerville & 1 at B A Argentina. Also stated as being 'special order' jobs. Part of Fords drive to sell more commercial units in 1931.

Based on the pictures it looks like it should not be too difficult to re-create a reasonable looking wagon.

I saw this one at Iola three or four years ago. I snapped pictures, but did not talk to the owner and so don't know if it is a nice reproduction or an incredibly preserved original. Either way, it was sure cute!

No known original survivors. A father and son did an exceptionally nice job recreating one. Article was in the WoodyWagons news letter earlier this year.

I believe that is storage. There was a water tank in the top that I believe held 10 gallons of whater.

Thanks to all that have responded my inquiry. My friend in Norway has some of the parts for the Traveler and needs to get some measurements.

A few years ago I was at Hershey in the car corral looking at a poorly done (but still expensive) A woodie with a guy who Identified himself as the owner of Pleasantville Body works, the maker of repo A woodie bodies. He said he was working on recreating a Traveler and I think he said his son was involved. I wonder if this is the guy Steve Ciccalone is referring to?

Bruce,
Thanks for the pictures. What a great vehicle. I was asked by someone in Norway to help with dimensions, etc, as he indicated he had parts. If you get this email, please respond to me so that I can put you in touch with him. My email is [email protected]. Thanks

Safari bob. Thank you for your effort so far. I have closely studied the pictures from Bruce. The are nice but only gives me the main points - not the important dimensions.
The Traveler was reproduced by S&S Industries, Dewittville,NY, but the manufactors daughter, Ruth, have not got anything left from drawings or sketches.
But it doesn't prevent me from keeping on looking, writting and trying to find new sources of information.
By the way - I am from Denmark not Norway, a beautiful country as well.
Thanks Ole

What dimentions are you looking for?

Hello Mike
The front doors in a Traveler has windows to be rolled up and down. I know the dimensions from a 150B. What is the diffence?
The dimensions of the rear doors I don't know anything about !
Both the front doors and the rear door can be loced with a key, but I don't know anything about the locks!
Other dimensions I am looking for is
A/the measures for the bed (and the brackets for this),
B/the seize of the water tank (and where it is placed under the roof),
C/how the back rest of the front seat in the passenger side is "moved" to make room for your head or feet, when you are using the the bed.
D/All information about the small cupboard! ( or is it made individuel for each of the ten original Travelers?)
The floor in a Traveler has no well over the rear spring. How is the floor raised.?
You see - this spring I finished building a 150A (have allready driven 2500miles this summer). So what I am searching is information about alle the dimensions/parts that is different from a 150 A and B.
I have the hinges for the front and rear doors, the corner brachets, the tail light brackets, the header, the frames for the rear doors and a few other parts.
Hope you (or others) can help me getting these informations so I can have some more fun in my garage building a Woody 255A Traveler.
Thanks Ole

it sure looks like there is a cover over the rear springs
also the water tank must be quite long as the fill spout is behind and above the drivers seat

Let's see if we can find you information on the 155A. from this you can modify it like ford did to a 255A traveler.

As mot has shown the floor does not seem to be raised at all.

try contacting;

Thanks mot and Mike
First time I have seen those pictures of a Traveler.
Yes, the floor is not raised in a Traveler(what I thought because it is made out from the 155A). I also got an idea about the seize of the water tank.Originally there must have been curtains on the rear doors inside.!The cupboard on Bruce picture looks to be similar to your picture (what pictures can tell!)
I will contact Wagon Works immediately.!
Huckster Wagon and Depot Hack - do you know how I can contact them?
Thanks again for your help
Ole
