Sealed water pump bearings
I have a set of NOS water pumps for the 59L with original bushings. I am looking for a source for NOS or NORS sealed bearings to replace the bushings. I would much prefer NOS or NORS stock as it was most likely made in the good old USA vs somewhere. Thank you Fordbarners.

Re: Sealed water pump bearings
If your pumps have bushings , I don't think you can put bearings in to replace the bushings , the heavy duty dual belt truck pumps have bearings, the car pumps had bronze bushings, at least the car pumps here in the U.S had bushings till 48 the 49/53 cars and trucks had bearings.

Re: Sealed water pump bearings
Thank you Bruce. I have replaced the bushings with sealed bearings before. I got them from Chuck's Trucks, but not sure of the country of origin. That's why I asked. So the long & short of it is, the job is not a big deal. But I would like to use NOS or NORS bearings.

Re: Sealed water pump bearings
The pump housing for the 59 series roller bearing pump is different from the bushing housing pump. The 59 engines with the roller bearings were typically dual belt pulley truck and Bus engines.

Re: Sealed water pump bearings
Bushings in the Ford pumps are better than bearings. Will
last almost forever and never seize up like bearings. If they are getting grease or oil the shaft runs on a film of oil and never touches the bushings. They can wear if the fan belt is over tight. G,M.

Re: Sealed water pump bearings
GM,
Not to argue the point.... but.... If bushings are better do nearly all water pumps in all makes and models from 1950ish newer have bearings? I can agree a properly maintained and rebuilt (by someone good like skip) original water pump will serve for many years to come with no issues.. |

Re: Sealed water pump bearings
Be sure the oil passages in the block are clear so that the bushings get lubricated. Gasket cement and crap often plug them up. You need those double pulley truck pumps if you have to have sealed bearings.
