Default Why shipping cost is so high!!!!

I mailed a cluster gear from Regina Saskatchewan Canada to Port Townsend Wa. (as far west as you can go) It went from Regina, east to Mississauga Ontario, then to Chicago and then headed west. A trip that should have taken 1270 miles actually took 4304 miles. And they have the gall to add a fuel surcharge.

Shippers don't see a recession do they? I am sooo upset with shipping costs and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it...I'll bet 10% of my car's restoration is tied up in shipping.......at MAC's I paid the extra fee ($2.50) on top of shipping costs, to expedite my shipment that weighed 2#......only took 17 days to get to me in California!....Matt in Alameda

I've always good service from USPS. Flat rate is a good deal and so is Priority Mail.

Fed EX is the only other shipper that seems to have real good service.

Its all in the price of diesel .At $4 a gallon in a truck getting 7 mpg its going to be passed on to someone. Its the same reason everything else is so high right now.More than likely the reason it went so far out of the way is due to the fact that most carriers use hubs an every thing goes there first,it doesn't seem right but thats how they make their schedule.I work for Fedex and I know to get from Jacksonville to Pensacola it would go to Atlanta to Birmingham to Mobile to Pensacola. It seems strange but they make money doing it that way.

Had a couple of boxes sent UPS from CA on the same day. They both arrived on the same day in two different trucks.

Indeed. It's all about getting as full of a truck as possible. Cheaper to ship it West - East - West on a full truck than to send two partially full trucks in two different directions. Think carpooling, except for packages.

Similar deal as to why airlines fly through hub airports instead of having direct flights from Kalamazoo to Timbuktu.

I have to have a talk with each postman when they make a personnel change due to there habit of tieing your goodies to the mail box in a plastic bag. Here in the San Antonio area, if it's left unatended in the front of your house or business, it's considered fair game whether they have a car that it fits or not. I've had something stolen with each new postman. I don't know why they think that that's acceptable. All they have to do is follow proceedure and leave a notice card and I'll go to the post office & get it. At leasty all of my Fed Ex and UPS shippments make it. Most of those items have to be signed for or they shipper is liable for loss. The USPS has different rules. It's considered delivered if the postman says so. If it gets stolen they take no resposibility for it unless there was a requirement for it to be signed for. You have to pay extra for tracking and response with the USPS. It's SOP with UPS & Fed Ex.

Shippers are making money on the fuel surcharge, don't let them fool ya. I deal with truck freight everyday and these trucking companies are running the nicest fleets in history.

The guy was talking about shipping from Canada, not within the US.From what I understand Canadian mail is sorted through NY or Chicago coming or going.First class letters can take up to a week to get here.As for fuel surcharge - who was the shipper?

I don't like the cost of shipping myself but the cost is high due to fuel. They don't pay any less than you do. If you want to play, you got to pay.

A man was shipping a package at the post office. The clerk asked "Do you want to ship it with insurance?"

The customer asked "What's the difference?"

The clerk replied "All the packages get thrown overhand, except the ones with insurance we toss underhand"

Like many others I agreed to pay the extra $2.50 or so to have Macs put the part in the mail that day. Despite poor sales in America they claim to be swamped with orders. It always takes a week to get a package from Macs in NY to my address in KY. After spending the $2.50, that package also arrived in one week.
