Break adjustment question on 47 Ford
Can someone tell me which way to turn the adjusting nuts to tighten the break shoes? lets say looking at the back side of the rear backing plat, which way would tighten the breaks?
Thanks - an answer will save me from taking them apart again. Jim |

Re: Break adjustment question on 47 Ford
The 11/16" head adjusters at the front of the backing plates turn towards the front of the car, the ones to the back of the plates turn the opposite direction. To adjust the brake, with the wheels off the ground, turn the heads in the proper direction until the shoe is seated, then back off until they can be turned with no contact. Don't move the adjusting bolts at the bottom of the backing plate unless you have installed new shoes or linings which need to be centered.

Supereal's explaination above is correct, assuming the wrench handles are facing up.

Here's a diagram if it helps. It illustrates the instructions that Supereal gave.

Re: Break adjustment question on 47 Ford
I figured out what was going on. The emergency Break was preventing the shoes to retract far enough. took off the 2 bolts holding the e-break to the Back Plate and wammo fixed!
Just so if someone is stuck.
