Default Stamping on front body crossmember 30 Roadster

I'm working on my dads early (March) 30 Standard Roadster and it has a stamping on the front body crossmember that we would like to know what it means. The CLEV is pretty straight but the 348 is kinda all over the place. We know the car was bought originally around Medina Ohio (which is close to Cleveland) and have pics of it still together in the 60's. We are trying to do a fine point resto on this car, and have asked a few people what this stamping means. Should I leave it or fill it? Also I am missing a couple pieces of original zinc running board trim, any sources on where to get it or where I can get pieces restored? Thanks in advance, pics included of the stamping.

Thanks for the info, wonder why ours is CLEV instead of CL or CLE.

Nice detail, hope you leave it there, would a judge lift the floor mat to inspect it? Bob

Hey Bleedblue 4 life

My early 30 Coupe has the same stamping "CLEV 752"..The Roadster was built in the Cleveland assembly Plant...I figure my A was built late may or June...It has the early instrument Panel..I'am thinking your car was built a day or two before mine....

Year's ago I contacted Dave Sturges,,Who was working on Plant Code's..He said he never came across the Clev stamping as most of the one's he saw were "CL"...So there you go,,must of been the same guy stamping that added the EV...

Our vin is 29821XX which puts it as a March car. It has the early frame, early rolled front fender edges, and of course the early dash. Depending on your vin, they might be farther apart then u think. Was the number the body sequence built or the body type sequence? (ex. mine was the 348th Roadster body vs. the 348th body from Cleveland)

Hey Bleedblue4life

Sorry I missed that you stated your car was produced in March...My vin is 33607xx which is the engine number,,,About the middle of May...I'am thinking the A is June production as it has the round Grommet for the starter rod..

Early 30 chassie to about April have the E brake lever coming under the frame...Mine has the lever on the outside of the frame

I'am thinking the number's are body type production # Has to be,,,I Saw this Production's number's in Model A New's of all the Ford Plant's

Here's Cleveland #

1927 0

1928 4696

1929 34,338

1930 29,127

1931 13,800

1932 0

Total 81,961

Percent of total Ford production at Cleveland plant 2.47 %

Take care,

Greg out West
