Default Painting gas tank welt

I did a search on this and found a lot of installation tips, but none on the actual painting. I think I should very lightly scuff the welting surface, prime, then paint, then clear as normal. Agreed?

The gas tank welt should be painted after it is installed around the cowl section AND painted when the body is painted itself.

Yes what pluck said that is the way it was done originally.... I don't paint my welt for adhesion reasons especially when using clear... It ends up cracking and peeling ...
AACA doesn't seem to mind

I use Roy Nacewicz's pyroxylin welting that accepts paint as is - no scuffing or anything else besides cleaning it before painting. It is more expensive than the plastic cored normal welting. His welting has a paper core in it. I do paint the cowl welting after it is installed. I don't paint the fender welting as it is already black.

Guys

Do not over think it. just install the welting and paint the body. it will be fine. I have not had any failures all these years.

Mix flex additive in the color as for any flex panel. Been doing it for 30 years with no problems.
