Default My 47 Ford pickup is on the road!!!

A couple months back I purchased this 1947 Ford 1/2 ton pickup. It had sat since 1991. Shortly after I bought it, I bought a new house and have devoted nearly all my time to moving and getting my old house on the market. I have had little time to work on the ol green pickup. I did clean the fuel tank and run new fuel lines, rebuild the carb, GMC Bubba on here was very kind and rebuilt the distributor for me (Thanks again!!!), I went through the brakes running all new steel lines, re-wired it and put new tires on it.

It runs pretty good and everything works! I still need to do quite a bit of clean up, lube the chassis and put a new windshield and rubber in...but for the most part she is legal and safe. Lucy the hound and I took it for a maiden voyage to my Brother's and back, did flawless although seems a bit underpowered (even for a 6). Need to mess with the carb linkage and make sure it's getting fill throttle. But at least she lives on

Good show Chris, she's a real beauty. I've said before that I LIKE TRUCKS, and yours looks great.

What's wrong with the windshield?

It's cracked and de-laminating in places...worst part is it leaks really bad.

I really like the truck and love that patina! Maybe some type of company name on the door made to look old and match the patina would be cool.

Love those jailbars! Does a spare really fit in that mount? I wouldn't think so.

Many years ago I bought one like that with a 51 mercury engine. Ran really well and wish I still had it but needed some cash for a 33 Ford pu I was doing over so had to let her go. Yours brings back happy memories as it looks about the same.

Great looking truck and should be good for lots of miles and use. I had one of those back in the 60s, bought it for $125 off the back row of a car lot, fixed the trans stuck in 2nd and drove the hound out of it. Old engine used oil but always started and got me home. Drove it to Ft Benning and back in 63. Ended up trading it for three Indian motor cycles, still have one of them and would like to find that truck again!

Great truck Chris! Reminds me of my '39. It went to Oklahoma though. Too many toys!

The Ford six was said to have more torque than Henry's flat head V8. Our 1946 Ford pick up with its V8 is not short of power and I cruise safely at 60 mph on the freeway with it. Radial tires made all of the difference in the world when I installed them on the pick up. Enjoy.

I had a 1951 Ford pickup with the flathead 6 and a 4 speed...although not the fastest thing in the world it cruised down highways easily. This truck is little on power and I can floor it and still not get much high end speed...I'm thinking the arm from the pedal to the carb is too long and not getting full throttle. Or it's not advancing which would make no sense. I have to investigate a little, have not even looked into it as it got dark by the time I got home last night. Feels like driving a Model A

Once again nice work Chris!!! I have liked all of your cars and trucks that you have and had. You have a knack for finding the vintage tin, but I like your taste in what you do with them. Not super over restored just cool drivers. I have a few cars but my 50 F1 is probably my favorite, like your truck it's just a stocker that I've been tinkering with to make it a little nicer. I just enjoy driving it to work every day.
