Default 39 coupe seat

Hi

I plan to redo the seat, in leather. How many yards are needed?

I was told that a hide has 3 yards.

Most hides run between 45 and 55 square feet which divides by 9 to figure yards. When I had my 40 coupe seat, door panels, kick panels, panels behind the seat and the package tray recovered my upholster used 3 hides with a little left over. I did have him recover 100% of the seat with leather. I kept the cloth headliner as it looks good with the leather.

Thanks that must look outstanding. I would like just the seat.

Anyone know many hides or yards needed to just redo the 39 coupe seat?

I'd suggest you buy two hides minimum. You want them to match.
If you're having an upholstery shop do the trimming, they will certainly procure the leather for you.

Thanks Mike

I am able to buy the leather hide wholesale. Upholster is ok and will use the leather I bring in.

I agree on matching, that’s my intent to get more than needed.

Hopefully you will physically look at the leather before you purchase it in order to match the color if you have to buy more than one piece. The color can vary from piece to piece. Also inspect it for thin spots on the back side. Those can occur when they scrape the flesh from the back of the hide.

I did my 35 Coupe in leather - don't recall the # of hides used ... but do remember there there were many choices of leather types, grades, and look.

Are you trying to emulate the original type optional leather - then perhaps Kube would be the man to comment re type and supplier info. I chose to duplicate the 35 Coupe seat patterns but upgraded the leather quality .. also I copied 39 Ford convertible door panels for the 3 panel "look". All sorts of things to consider ... all have an impact on cost of course!

That looks real nice.

I do plan to copy the 39 current style/pattern. I’ve already visited the whole seller and took several colors and textures. I laid each on the current 39 seat and have one selected. My only gap right now is how many hides (1.5, 1.75 or 2).

Based on my measurements I was thinking 1.5 hides was more than enough. However, at this point, without input from a Barner who has done, I’ll go with 2.

Having some left over is a good idea especially if you are covering the arm rests and some will be used on the metal skirt of the seat bottom if your seat has the skirts.
