Default Can't use search function

First post here. I love this site, first joined 6 yrs ago. Been away awhile. I am ready to try my 1st flathead rebuild. I really could use the info on this site to help me. Very green, here. When I try to use the search function,my keyboard flashes up then poof! Gone! I am using my cell, does that matter? Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Nope not doing anything wrong from my experience. It does the same on my Android phone. A real PITA.

Most of the time I'm using a PC and it works fine for me there.

And Welcome to the FordBarn Forums!

Adding: There's a smartphone app called TapTalk you might check out. I don't use it so I know nothing else about it.

It may be because of changes to combat scammers, see here: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showp...59&postcount=7

Ross.....I thought I kind'a knew my way around this place, and there have been a time or three that I wanted to capture and link-to ONLY ONE ENTIRE post in a thread like you did with Ryan's post. So, how do ya do that? Thanks.....DD

I understand the whole keeping out the scammers and all that. I don't understand how keeping me from searching fits in though. I think my phone is the problem

Mn1949ford, I really don't think the two are related. I've been having the issue you mention for years.

I just got curious and tested and it happens the same way if I use Chrome or the Samsung Internet app on my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S4) and Chrome on a tablet (a Samsung Galaxy Tab A).

The issue, for those wondering, when you click the search button, a search box appears but not the keyboard, when you tap the search box to bring up the keyboard, it opens and immediately closes without allowing text to be entered in the search box. It's a real forehead banging problem. Here's a 13 second clip of what it looks like if anyone wants to work on it further. https://youtu.be/c7luNKGtSU0

I won't venture if it's a website issue, or a device issue, and I won't be surprised when someone else reports it works with their phone.

Not directly related, but a search on the internet will often bring up both Barn & HAMB links on the topic. I often search that way first because it is an easier search engine to use.

Ok, just tried search from my Samsung. If I click on the search line the popup box closes. But if I click on advanced search it works fine. Have you tried the advanced search?

Nice job! Just tested it. That's a work-around for me.

Clicking on the post number (top right hand corner of the post) will open just that post, then copy and paste (or save) that URL.

I only ever use a computer as it has a nice big screen. But I find the best way to search is to use google and type in:

valve seats site:fordbarn.com

Obviously you start with what you are looking for.

I don't know if that will work on your device.

As you are looking for flathead rebuild tips, you could check out my site Marts Garage on YouTube. There are lots of flathead related videos on there and lots of FordBarn related stuff in general.

Mart.
