Default Moving Day

Stripped this car in 1978 in prep for new paint. Skip the details. Finally, today 43 years later, back at it, loaded in truck going in for paint tomorrow.

I can relate to timelines such as your '32 deluxe coupe project. Better late than never! Good luck.

Looking good; probably later than you originally anticipated; but it's there now.

I stripped my B520 13 years ago but am not going to try to beat your record of 43 years before I get it to the paint shop. Good luck!

Yesterday turned out to be a really good gully washer. But didn't float away, so all wrapped up and on the road in rush hour traffic.

The tarp kept it dry overnight but on the road it was no go. So off with it. Lucky it was a nice bright clear day.

Hopefully, you came-off with the tarp soon enough to preclude any damage. You never want to wrap a tarp on a paint finish under any circumstances. Going down the road, the wind buffets the tarp material repeatedly against the finish and can damage or ruin a paint job very quickly, almost as if like sandpaper. If you leave a tarp on a body for any length of time while NOT ON THE ROAD, moisture (condensation) forms between the tarp and paint and can destroy a finish in very short order, especially when outside in the elements. The short period that you had your body wrapped (and for good reason) would have caused no moisture damage. That's gonna be one NICE 3-window! DD

Cool project. Sometimes it takes time. Persistence is the only thing that gets it done. Sometimes doing it right, sometimes piss and vinegar wrong. Looks like you are doing it right.

Some more pictures from moving day when I stopped to take the tarp off.

The plan? get it up on four tires and running by the end of the summer THIS YEAR.

Some follow up pictures. The worst part of this car is the passenger door. Popped open a few times. This was my daily transportation (day and night) during the sixties. Searched for a replacement door for years, found a pair at Hershey, counting out $1500. then Bob Slack stepped in front of me with $1800. Kept looking but after a while realized the original door was better than anything I found for sale.

Lincoln delivered their MKIIs within a soft bag of sorts but a lot of those cars had to be repainted by the dealers.k

Was it anything like the tents on these '51 Mercs? Must'a been one of Fords not-so-good, "Better Ideas", I guess. DD

V8COOPMAN Thanks for the compliment

When I was growing up FoMoCo Edgewater NJ Assembly Plant used Palisades Amusement Park parking lot in Cliffside Park as a staging area for overflow production of new cars and trucks. We saw new cars and haulers all the time. They did use covers to hide cars in transit before new model announcement in the fall.
