Default E 28 Phaeton on epay

I have no affiliation with this sale, just passing it along to those interested in a door handle-less 28.

Thanks for posting the Ebay ad. Such tid-bits enrichens the forum.

Nice to see BF Goodrich tires - an original brand that is seldom seen on Model A's. (I've got them on my '28 Phaeton).

The eBay 'Early' '28 (actually, it looks to be more of a mid-year to me, just before the door handles went on) has the later 'Long' generator (vs. correct Powerhouse), modern spark plugs, etc. It also lacks the 'squeeze' E.Brake handle that an 'early' '28 should have. Hubcaps look to be reproductions, overall plating seems to be chrome, not nickle. Etc. Nit-picking to be sure - I only mention it because the seller says the car is a "Show Quality" 'Show Car' - not "An excellent restoration", as it really is. And it certainly CAN BE a 'Show Car', but just not in the top two classes - unless it is a local, Non-Judging Standards, car show. An excellent restored 'driver', but a long ways from a top contender at a MARC / MAFCA National Meet.

Not an early 28. Not sure when they changed the e-brake handle, but this e-brake handle is like the one in my 1930, not the one in my Nov. 28 roadster, fwiw. No radiator shroud and not a Zenith carburetor. Looks nice in the pics, though.

The emergency brake looks to be in front of the gear shift as they were between left hand emergency brakes and mid 29 if my memory is right. My car is May 29 and the emergency brake is still in front of gear stick.

How come I don't see any pictures of the interior or the engine compartment like some of you do?

If you can see the first 6 pictures, then hit the blue arrow to the right of the pictures.

Thanks for all the comments. I like seeing those sort of things being pointed out. It may help someone more accurately assess the car and not necessarily rely on the seller's comments.
Does the fact that it has the road draft tube make you think it may have a lot of blowby, or is this something people commonly put on touring cars?
Anybody want to guess what it will actually sell for?
What would you pay, assuming you could just write a check, and have room to store it?
If you bought it, would you attempt to make it a "points car" or just use as a fun driver car?

Looks nice. Well represented.

I'd guess from looking at the car it should bid low maybe mid 20's. Anything less would be a pretty good buy in my estimation.

The sellers idea of a "show" car is way different than mine "fully restored show quality". Hose clamps on hoses etc. wrong generator, parking brake, been better if he just spent a little to clear up the obvious things, but it is a good starting place if someone wanted to put some $ into it to make it right. Wonder what their reserve is, Ebay can sometimes bring crazy prices..... and with that said it would look nice in my garage next to my '29 coupe and pickup.

Why do you have 'to make it right' ?
Why not enjoy the car the way it is ?

I like historical accuracy for antique cars, but would enjoy it as is, then piece by piece, as the opportunity arrises, I would replace wrong parts with correct parts, while keeping the car drivable.

I'm not a fan of long layed up projects.

my '29 PU is a driver and I enjoy it as such not exactly correct, but that is OK and I am not likely going to change anything, But if I was selling it and said it was "Show Quality" as the seller said, it should be exactly that or someone that doesn't know is going to get taken, thinking that the seller was informed and honest in the description.

but guess the economy is still not that strong or has demand run out for phaetons?

I also thought it would have bid a little higher.

Seems like there was no bids on the last day which is strange. Obviously the owner thought it was worth more as it did not reach his reserve so we will likely see it listed again soon. Wayne

I only sold a few items on ebay, and that was about 10 years ago. One was a Model A, and a guy with 0 feedback bid $3000 three days before the auction end. There never was a bid after his, and I'm sure that's because people figured with zero feedback it might be a shill bid. I should have rejected his bid because I figure that cost me a thousand dollars. I see a lot of sellers refuse bidders with zero feedback for the more expensive items.
