How to remove motometer/wings rad. cap
Probably overthinking this but I am unsure how to remove the very nice winged, hinged motometer rad cap. I cam open it easily, but need to remove it so I can take the shell off. I am guessing turning counter clockwise, but it does not seem inclined to move. Hate to force it and break something

does it have a set screw on the back side holding it to the rad neck? like an antitheft anchor?

thanks, old, I will check. I would really rather have a simple rad cap, but it came with the car, so...

Re: How to remove motometer/wings rad. cap
If it's anything like the one on my 31,
Open it up, probably has (2) hex screwes with nut's thar rotate inward to release the whole unit off the radiator. Be very careful the nut's don't fall down the radiator. Use your finger to prevent that from happening. Regards Bill Last edited by BillCNC; 03-08-2022 at 12:16 PM. |

Thanks, Bill. I called Snyders and he said what you described, but not there. This one is different. No nothing inside and darned if I can see anything on the outside either.

I have a repo motometer on my 29 Roadster. It has a small set screw on the back like Old Ugly described. It really hard to get off. Still working on mine.
By the way, Old Ugly, I hope that’s the name of your car! David Serrano |

Re: How to remove motometer/wings rad. cap
Mine had a set screw on the back. You could see it with the cap closed. It was a allen screw.
Someone tried to steal my cap at the hardware store in Lancaster. They did not get it, but in the process they broke the neck off of my very expensive radiator. Now it is decoration on my workbench. |

Re: How to remove motometer/wings rad. cap
Yes, problem solved. Set screw removed and bingo! Motometer now sits on bench and I can remove the shell and radiator. Kevin at Snyders got one off the shelf while we were on the phone and identified the set screw as the answer to my problem. The smallest Allen wrench in my set did the trick. Apparently the 28/29 radiators have a threaded neck.
