One of the problems with the thermostat in the radiator hose is that it can move up the hose away from the outlet. That can be solved by adding a hose clamp to keep it in position. The other problem is that is does not sense the coolant temperature very well and will cycle open and closed during the summer. That can be helped by drilling out the hole in the flange to about 1/4 inch or in extreme cases adding more holes. The thermostat housing at the top of the head will help with both of these issues.

I have it as well...Car runs cool and it almost looks factory...much better than just having a Thermostat in the upper hose...they also supply a much better than average Thermostat. Ernie in Arizona

Derek, I have one of those housings and had a problem getting fittings for it. Only a hydraulics place had NPT fittings. Every other application used BSPT. There is one thread per inch difference between them. I would expect NZ is the same Why oh why do they do that $#!T?

I think it is just geographic location. Around here it is hard to find anything other than NPT.

How can it fit both the '28-'29 models and the '30-'31 models?

McMaster Carr has both types of fittings. They are easy to deal with and fast but expensive. The BSPT fittings use a gasket rather than sealer or Teflon tape.

Not quite, BSPP connection uses gaskets
BSPT is a tapered thread connection

I'm surprised that Australia doesn't use metric pipe threads.

So am I. It seems some industries haven't caught up. That said, it is obvious that all of the systems work in a similar way and work just fine. It is when we try mixing them that the troubles start. IMO, we should dump BSPT and NPT and all go metric as a world wide standard. I'm not holding my breath on that though.
