Default 33-34 brake pedal clevis needed?

Picked up another 33-34 brake and clutch pedal assembly with mounting bracket because I needed the brake pedal. It looks like someone welded (rather poorly) a clevis on the bottom of the pedal boss. Is it safe to assume that I can cut this off?

Also wondering about how to determine if my pedals are usable considering wear of the pedal bores that the new bushings are inserted? Is there a measurable tolerance or is it by how well the new bushing and shaft fits without too much wobble?

This is going in my 34 pickup with hydraulic brakes using the Lacy master cylinder kit.

Thanks

If your hydraulic brake set up uses the original bracket for the brake and clutch pedals, that added appendage must be removed or it will likely clash with the front lip of said bracket when you attempt to use the brakes.

As for the pedal's bushing bore, it is the fit of the pedal shaft and bushing that counts and you can eliminate the out-of-round wear in the pedal itself by boring it out to a size compatible with a larger-than-original bushing's outside diameter.

Follow up on the bushing bore, where do I get the larger than original bushing? Wouldn’t that also mean larger than original shaft too?

You want a bushing with the original I.D. and a increased O.D.. Start with Google; there are lots of possible sources listed there.

Have you checked that is worn ? The pedals are forged, and not machined on the outside, so my point is the hole may not look concentric with the forged metal around it. If indeed its worn past the original bushing size it will be a tricky thing to machine as there is not really a true surface anywhere to square it up to bore to a larger size. In my unprofessional machining mind, it would be some serious guess work to get it clamped true in the mill to start boring, then I would only remove what is needed to make it round again, then make the bushing for that size.

Hey "cas".....It MAY be wise NOT to assume that ALL Ford pedals are FORGED. I once believed that to be true also, but several of us (Tim Ayers, DavidG & myself) had a lengthy discussion (see the link BELOW) about two and a half years ago regarding pedals with an I-beam cross section, and that pedal above belonging to "drfromnc" appears to have the I-beam cross section. READ this link!

Thanks for the link DD. I remember that discussion now since my 34 has a beam clutch pedal. When I was building it in about 17 or so I thought I had one wrong pedal, and I believe there was a discussion on this about that time also.

Correct and good memory Coop. For some reason, those "I" beam '33/'34 pedals are indeed cast and not forged. Why in the world that is the case, I have no idea, but it is in fact true.
