Off topic a little, but what is a frame spreader?

Why not use two "EYE" bolts into the spark plug holes with a short chain from one to the other and than attached to the lift? I did remove and installed mine in this way WITH transmission attached.

I just use any 2 far enough apart head studs w/a chain and 2 very short pieces of angle iron, drilled both sides.

A fairly uncommon tool, both because it's not hard to rig a substitute out of stuff you have around the shop, and because many engines slip into place with nothing more than grease.

I have tried several times to use a load leveler and it has always been more trouble than it was worth on Model A and Flathead motors.
I usually remove the engine and trans together, but I have FAM mounts which makes it easier.

What setup do you use that works?

I use one or 2 eybolts in plug holes. try to rig it to the rear to balance. Then I can pull or push the crank to tilt it.
