Default Pickup tail light bracket

Does the wide bed use the same bracket as the narrow bed? I have attached pictures of my narrow bed bracket which I assume is correct for the narrow bed.

Incorrect in the pictures are the mounting of the license above the tail light (to make it visible when running a rear bumper) and the clear finish on the wood block instead to the correct flat black.

Charlie: I am attaching a picture that shows the tail light mounting spot on my narrow bed RPU.

View from the top. Looks like where your two bolts go in have no holes on my bed.

JaxFLG8r,

Interesting bracket, definitely looks stock. Any idea when it was used? Do you have a Wide Bed?

My father started acquiring the parts to put together the late '31 RPU more than 40 years ago. The bed that we have is one that was allegedly taken off a phone company truck when they installed the phone company service body, then placed into an attic. I am not sure I believe the story, because it was in pieces, and we riveted it back together last year. The truck cab is late '31 with indented firewall.

The bed is a narrow bed, reportedly off a '31 truck. The tail light bracket was already riveted in place when we put the pieces back together. My father is convinced our bracket and/or the current license tag bracket location are incorrect, because a license plate would rub on the fender.

The 1931 pickup with the wide bed did not use the same taillamp bracket as the earlier narrow bed pickups. It used the A-13472-B tail lamp bracket which was also used on station wagons and mounts under the pickup bed and the lamp is under the body. On the narrow bed pickups the taillamp bracket mounted under the body, but placed the lamp so it was viewed from the rear of the truck with the fender behind it.

I'm pretty sure that the early-28 pickup beds had a riveted bracket like that, instead of a wooden block. My guess is that the bed found in the attic was an early-28 bed, not a 31 bed.

I have a late 31 indented firewall Closed Cab Pickup with Wide Bed.
I'll photograph the bracket this evening if I get a chance and will post.

I agree with Neil on the early 28 bracket in the pictures.

To answer the first posters question I have checked the Judging Standards and find that the data in Bratton's catalog is the same. in 2017 catalog, page 89 is a photo of part number 19380 with its period of use description, May 1931 to end of production with wide bed, On same page part number 19280 is the earlier pickup bracket with catalog photo upside down to its actual in use position, and facing wrong way also, but I am sure you figured that out.
