Default Shoebox Overdrive Governors

Hi All,
Can anyone speak to governors used in the Ford Shoebox transmission. Are all governors for all transmissions of that era the same, are there 1-wire governors and 2-wire governors? I am hearing some conflicting information on application etc.
Any information would be extremely helpful and appreciated.
Thanks S

Except for the early Lincoln overdrives (1940-48) all of the Ford based Borg Warner OD governors used the single terminal governor unit. I don’t know exactly what year the change occurred but they went from the 3 screw plastic top governor to the 4 screw steel topped unit in the mid to later 1950’s. You can use either type in your Ford or Mercury overdrive. The little gear on the bottom of the governor did change in 1957 from a left hand pitch to a right hand pitch. The gears are easily swapped however.

We do have NOS governors of the 4 screw type in stock. They are, of course, the single terminal type.

Are you looking for one? I am in Mass and might be able to help you out.

Would this look to be the correct governor? Already have the gear:

Yes, this looks to be correct. I put it in the vice and spin it with a drill motor and use an ohm meter to make sure it is working. You can take the top off to inspect the points.
