Default Distributor gear removal

On an 8BA distributor, what is the best and safest way to remove the gear from the shaft?

Read everything posted here.
The gear is a very tight press fit requiring a gear puller or a press.

In one of the posts Jim Linder (Bubba's Ignition) says you need heat and a press.

Here's more info. to peruse.

I got it off using a press. I had a clamshell puller setup and it was sketchy to say the least, appreciate bud.
