Default Off topic, Vintage Air Rally

Hi Gents,
Off topic but I think you might be interested.

Google, Crete2Cape or Vintage air rally

On 12 November 2016 12 vintage aircraft departed Crete, a Greek island in the Med, on a 5 week air rally, through Africa to Cape Town. The aircraft from the 20s to 40s were from the US, Canada, UK, EU, Botswana and South Africa. The vintage aircraft were accompanied by another 10 or so modern support aircraft. The fleet completed the rally at Stellenbosch airfield (40 km from Cape Town) on Friday 17 December 2016 after 36 days of flying.

The reason I placed this post is the fact that the South African Tiger Moth, registered ZS-DNP used to belong to my Brother and myself. The present owner bought the aircraft, specifically for this Air Rally, about two years ago. Earlier this year, she was disassembled and shipped to the UK where she was reassembled for the event. She was then flown from the UK to Crete for the start of the Air Rally and then on to Cape Town, a total of 8000 nautical miles.

This is ZS-DNP on short final approach for Stellenbosch airfield, Cape Town. Quite an achievement.

I like air shows and especially listening to the radial engines when they idle. I wonder what Henry Ford's experimental radial car engine sounded like? I believe it was called the X4.

Nice looking plane coming from an old USAF Air Craft mechanic, both piston and jet engine planes.
