Correct color for engine?
Hi Folks;
I am starting the process of restoring a "High Point Car" and would like to know which supplier has the correct color Ford Engine Green. Thru the years I have rebuilt several engines and have painted them Ford Engine Green but these were not for High Point Cars and I am not sure the paint I have been using is really the correct color. Can someone tell me which supplier has paint that is closest to the original color Ford used. Thanks in advance for your input. Chris W. |

Re: Correct color for engine?
That's a good question, and it would be nice to see pictures of the correct color.
This is my engine with paint from Little Dearborn, which might be the same as Snyder's. |

Re: Correct color for engine?
Here's a pic of mine, I used the colour code from the MARC site, DS127, this is what ppg code it turned into, I don't know if it's 100% correct as previous threads on the subject don't come out with a clear answer

Re: Correct color for engine?
I LOVE Bill Hirsch's Ford Engine Green paint! It's kind of pricey, but looks great, is durable and I believe most show car guys prefer it to the big vendors' rattle can green. You need to allow Hirsch's paint to cure for two weeks before starting the engine, as the instructions advise, so be aware of that if you are in a time crunch before a show.

Re: Correct color for engine?
Chris, if you read the Standards in area #1, it says that the color of Ford engine green was neither bright nor dark. It did, however, vary in shade from engine to engine. You just want to make sure that all pieces painted green match, and don't put too much material on these. I have used engine green from Bratton's in the past as was happy with their color. It's great to hear that you are going for fine point. What are you building?

Re: Correct color for engine?
I think I remember reading somewhere that the left over enamel from dipping things like fenders ended up in the engine enamel tank. That would explain a lot of variation.

Re: Correct color for engine?
I am aware of at least 3 Henry Award winners that have used Bratton's engine green. With application as Gary pointed out.

Re: Correct color for engine?
Snyders offers the best color I have seen over the years. It has been reported the color did have subtle color variations due to the materials that were used to make the Ford Engine Green..

I am restoring a '31 Deluxe Roadster. I know a lot of people will say "not another one", but the first Model A I did a body-off restoration was a '31 Deluxe Roadster while I was in college. I had to sell it when I went in the Army. Several years later after the Army, I got a job in California. In 1966 I found a '31 Roadster that was incomplete but what was there was very good. I started locating the missing parts and stashing them away. I have restored many cars since then and finally got to the point where I can now start on the roadster. I am just starting the process. I have only had the car for 50 Years. Hopefully, it will not take me another 50 years to finish it. I am sure I will have more questions as I proceed. Thanks for all your input. Chris W.
