Fender holes etc.
Hi, My 34 Pickup has mounting holes in the front fenders that I believe were once square for carriage bolts. As you can see in the attached pixs, they are now rounded or worse. Is there anyu trick to getting them back to usable? I thought maybe a thin 18 gauge piece on the underside that had the square holes and then JB weld or similar. I don't think it is thick enough for welding, but I could be wrong.
Another question is that the front radiator apron I show, is it for a pickup? I see no way of it attaching anywhere. Lastly, the two holes on the rear fenders. What are they for? I have one of the rear braces for the back of the fender, but is there a front brace too? I thought the running board supplied enough support. Thanks, Al K. |

Re: Fender holes etc.
The two holes on the front fender are not for carriage bolts. They are for the headlight-bar mounting bolts that extend through the front fender bracket and are attached with nuts. Those two holes in the front of the rear fender are not stock. No bracket in front...only running board as you suspect. The apron with the cut outs is for a big truck (BB) but can be used if you fill the cutouts with sheet metal. Fiberglass repros are available that you may want to consider (Wescotts in Oregon, for example). The apron attaches to the front fenders via captive nuts that are welded to the apron.
The first picture shows a filled truck apron and the second picture shows a stock apron. |
