Car 3 spd shifter removal?

So the previous owner bent my shifter handle (to his liking w/a torch) and I bought another one to replace it...is that as easy as:

1. unscrew the collar around the lever
2. lift up and remove the old lever
3. insert new lever
4. reinstall collar and tighten

Afraid the answer wont be has easy as I am wishing


PS -f I remove it and reinstall the lever and it is in incorrectly whats my fix?

Sorry, my 36 ford sedan...stock 3 spd

Yep. Unscrew the collar. You'll see a pin in the shift tower once the collar is removed. Remove the pin and pull the shift lever out. Put the new one in replace the pin and screw the collar back on.

...and be careful not to drop that pin down into transmission.

Make sure that they are same length going into the trans. Mike

Found out the hard way the replacement shifter was incorrect and too short

Put the trans in neutral before removing the stick.
