Default rear main seal vs gasket 8Ba

The pan gasket covers the end of the rear main rope seal thereby splitting the rope seal. Is that the way its done or is there a better way? Thanks for the help. (used a lip seal for front)

I do not allow the gasket to separate the two rope seal ends. I cut a small piece off each gasket and add a dab of RTV sealant to be sure there is not a gasket gap.

I am not sure if my 59AB rear main is too different than the 8Ba but I left the oil pan gasket tabs on so that they fit into the groove of the cap. I also used a small amout of RTV and have not had a leak since!

I carefully cut a "U" shaped piece out of the end of the pan gasket that goes all the way to the journal, and around the rope seal end.

I'm not sure it makes a lot of sense for Ford and all the other gasket makers to put tabs on that need to be cut off. I put my 8BA motor together with the tabs in place and it seems to be working fine with nary a leak. Any other thoughts for or against??

There may be something to what your saying. I factor in one's technique of using whats available to them as important. Not everyone gets the same results with the same tools.
