46 stumble and idle screws
As posted b4 my 46 stumbles above 1800. I can SLIGHTLY change with timing. I can move its RPM and almost eliminate by idle mix screws almost 3 1/2 turns out

Re: 46 stumble and idle screws
That sure seems like a lot of turns on the mixture screws to me.....Usually 1-1/2 is about the sweet spot. Is it running rich?? Have you looked at the spark plugs to see just how its running????

Re: 46 stumble and idle screws
Idle mixture screws are toooo far out. The mixture screws have their biggest effect at idle. How many Carbs?

Re: 46 stumble and idle screws
The fact it stumbles and the idle mix screws are too far out, it is lean. Go 2 notches bigger on the main jets.
If you have Stromberg's with adjustable pump rods, put them on the long stroke. |

Re: 46 stumble and idle screws
You need to set your idle screws with a vacuum gauge. Otherwise you are just guessing. Air/fuel/spark. Its an air pump. The vacuum the compression an engine makes controls everything including a carb, vacuum advance dizzy and wipers. Without vacuum all doesn't happen. It's a good start.
know what condition your condition is in. It's all so simple it is complicated and all runs together. If you have solid vacuum at idle, you can run a vacuum gauge in the cab to monitor. You are not going fast otherwise knowing no matter how much compression you have if you have a vacuum leak. Combustion engines have power curves that electric cars do not have. The reason is there no air movement and how you control it. Last edited by Tinker; 07-31-2021 at 01:56 AM. |
