Default Steering gear Ford 1946

Hi all!

I notice that my steering gear is more and more heavy to drive. I wonder If someone of you have upgrade it to a more easy to drive one.

I know that my steering gear is the original from factory. Nowadays it is difficult for me to park in tight places.

maybe I am getting old and there is nothing to do about it..ja!

Please help me or guide me to any post about this matter.

Thanks as always

Maybe it needs some lub in the box or the kingpins. The kingpins should be lubed every 1000-2000 miles.

make sure the sreering parts are greased and not binding any where, check the steering box adjusing nut on top of the steering box, if its screwed down to much it will make the steering hard to turn, make sure the steering box has oil in it, check tires for proper inflation, i run 35# in mine, did you change to radial tires? if so it will turn hard at low speeds

Hi, I think it is a good idea to also look a the type of chassis lube you are using. The newer lubricating grease does not mix well with the old wax base or sulfur base grease that may be in the running gear. In fact it will harden if mixed and be very difficult to remove from running gear. I have used a product called Green Grease, it will mix with and is compatible with other chassis lubes. RR
