41 fuel tank flange for mounting the sending unit
Has anyone ever removed the flange from the top of a stock 41 fuel tank?
This is the flange that the fuel sending unit screws to. Thanks |

The sending unit screws to the tank. There is nothing removable on the top of the tank once the sending unit is unscrewed and removed.

The sending unit just screws onto the top of the tank, if yours is the original King-seely unit guard it with your life. I replaced my Argentine copy with another eBay unit which isn’t much better. Be sure to buy a new gasket, my cork one dried up while I was working on my sender. I bought a rubber gasket from C&G.

Veeder,
Why do you want to remove the flange that the fuel tank sending unit screws into? Is your goal to enlarge the dia. of the center hole to install an aftermarket fuel tank sending unit? Could you post photos of the tank opening and the fuel tank sending unit you are dealing with? Last edited by 19Fordy; 01-25-2022 at 10:49 AM. |

I also purchased a Bob Drake replacement fuel tank that it is really sad they don't make the opening in the top of the tank so it will accept the King Sealy REALLY SAD OF BOB DRAKE AND I CALLED THEM AND IT WAS A WASTE OF MY TIME!!! Anyways I have the broken screw drilled out and the hole reaped if I can find someone to boil out the old tank I may reuse it. I was entertaining the thought of cuthing the flange off the old tank and mounting it on the Bob Drake tank but it's not worth it. I know a bit confusing ........... |

I am not familiar with the Bob Drake repop tank, but would it be possible to make an adapter flange to fit between the original KS sender and the BD tank? It might position the sender about 1/4" higher than original, but you could surely modify the float and arm to suit

I used an adapter in the Drake tank and Im very pleased . No problem. I did have to careful filing, to slightly enlarge the adapter . I think it was aprx $30

Veeder, You could drill out the bad threaded hole in the OEM tank and use a 10-32 nutsert. Or, you could use the adapter, as suggested. I would try the nutsert first.

Re: 41 fuel tank flange for mounting the sending unit
Was able to drill out the hole and retapped it 10/32. Also found a place to dip the tank so assuming it goes as planned the own tank and gauge will go back in the car. We will see should I have to I’ll default to the Bob Drake tank kicking and screaming

Re: 41 fuel tank flange for mounting the sending unit
Hope you don't have to default back to BOB DRAKE tank but, if you do I am confident you can solve the sending unit problem.
