Default Lose brake system clevis pins

Current clevis pins are loose in their brake lever fitting. Rathy than try and drill the lever ends and use a larger pin, can I shim the pins with soup can metal?

Never use soup cans. Use beer cans. A much better experience.

You have to take all the slack out of your system. Use Oversize pins, please don’t shim openings.

Everything must be right, everything.

Enjoy

I agree, one thing you don't want to cheap out on is brakes.

Are the pins worn or are the rod ends worn. If it is just the pins, you can replace then. If it is the rod ends than the advice given by the experts is to drill them larger and use larger pins. You can try to bush the rod ends by inserting a steel bushing but you will still have to drill out the ends to get the bushings to fit correctly, so why not use the larger pins.

Some folks are going to argue for replacing the rods and the ends that screw onto the rods. If you do that the lengths of the rods can be adjusted per the service bulletins and then not changed.

The pin is harder than the rod ends, so I can almost guarantee you that the wear is in the ends. The common fix is to solder/braze in a piece of tubing that has the original diameter. You can do that or you can mess with oversize pins but it sounds like this may be the beginning of a brake job.

I would use a larger pin, then turn it down to get the fit you want. You might even be able to sand or file the pin to fit. Nice and simpl,it's only a few pins.

Hello all
I just finished a complete brake job on my Tudor.
Drilled everything out to 11/32. Oversized pins slipped
Right in. 😊

So, if install a loop of steel safety wire thru the rod/lever hole beside the sloppy new pin to reduce the slop, I'm unsafe, right????

Merry Christmas

Hmmm, $2.75 for a set of 14 O/S pins... What is your life worth?

Screwing around with the pins and holes probably will not kill you, but it might. The efficiency of the braking system will suffer. Why are you even considering this? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Do it right first time or…
You’ll do it again really soon or pay consequences
Any problem in the whole mechanical brake system magnifies in performance

I second what McMimmcs said. In the spirit of the season and in the spirit of the Model A community. Three cheers.

If possible just install oversized pins. Cheap, easy and a solid repair.
