Default Fuel petcock hard to turn

My petcock has gotten hard to turn. It was new a couple years ago. Any suggestions on freeing it up?

Back off a little bit on the packing nut and see if that helps. loosening the packing nut a small amount has worked for me .

Pour about 1/2 litre of engine oil into the tank.it will settle on the valve and lube it up.

I've read that use of Marvel Mystery Oil added to gas helps prevent this. An opinion of others, do not know if true.

I don't know if MMO will free up the valve, but I never put fuel in my car without it.

MMO helps, and I also use it. Also turn the valve ON and Off at least once a week, even if you don't drive the car. This modern gas evaporates quickly and leaves deposits behind that help stick the valve. I restored my valve over 20 years ago, and it turned very easily until I let the car set parked in my garage for a year.

There is a lubricant designed for fuel valves: "EZ Turn" fuel resistant lubricant. Here is one source:
